Version 0.1.0 Minor release Latest
Released
wp-config.org 0.1.0: The new wp-config.org
wp-config.org is rebuilt as a managed website: 25 free WordPress, server and website tools, each on its own page with a guide, common questions and related tools.
What’s new
- 25 free tools, each with its own page: a short introduction, the tool itself, what you can do with it, three steps to use it, a guide, common questions and related tools.
- WordPress tools: wp-config.php generator, child theme generator, starter plugin generator, WP-CLI command builder, schema markup builder, robots.txt builder and tester, and the theme and plugin checker.
- Server tools: Nginx, MariaDB, Redis and PHP generators for Ubuntu, a cron job builder with a preview of upcoming runs, an explained Linux command reference, an error code guide, a redirect rule builder and a configuration comparison tool.
- Website and domain checks: HTTP headers, HTTP/2, HTTP/3, Brotli compression, HSTS, DNS and email records, WHOIS, who is hosting a website, and what is my IP address.
- Generated files can be copied or downloaded, and the server generators can download every file at once as a ZIP.
- The home page and the header menu list every tool in three groups: WordPress, server configuration, and website and domain checks.
- An XML sitemap, an HTML sitemap and an llms.txt file list every tool.
- This changelog, with a page for every release.
Improved
- Every old address ending in .html, and the old privacy, cookie and terms addresses, now lead to the new page with a permanent redirect.
- Every page has its own title, description, sharing image and structured data, so search engines can show the tools, their steps and their questions.
- Built to WCAG 2.2 AA: every tool works with the keyboard alone, announces its results to screen readers and reflows at 200% and 400% zoom.
- Every tool stays readable on dark sections and in dark mode.
- Each tool page loads only its own script and styles. On a slow mobile connection the main content appears in under 2 seconds, and the page no longer shifts when the font arrives.
- The privacy, cookie and terms pages are rewritten for the new site and list every cookie it sets.
Bug fixes
- The robots.txt tester reads robots.txt the way Google does: a crawler such as Foo-Bar no longer follows the rules written for Foo, and escaped characters such as
%7Eand~are compared correctly. - The HTTP/3 test no longer reports every website as untestable when the checker cannot make HTTP/3 connections. It now says whether the website advertises HTTP/3 in its Alt-Svc header.
Security
- The ten tools that look something up on our server need a Cloudflare Turnstile check that is valid for that tool only and can be used once.
- Addresses that point to a private or reserved network are refused, including when a redirect or a DNS answer leads there.
- Lookups are rate limited for each visitor.
- The browser tools work entirely in your browser and send nothing to our server. The server tools keep no record of what was looked up and set no cookies.
- The Content Security Policy is enforced, so browsers block any script the site did not add itself.
Deprecated or removed
- The old static website. All of its tools are rebuilt here.
Known issues
- Our checker cannot make a live HTTP/3 connection yet, so the HTTP/3 test reports what a website advertises rather than proving that HTTP/3 connections work.
